Hello,

I am Phyllis R. Williams and I want to be your next DeKalb County State Court Judge.  I have lived in DeKalb County for over 14 years and I think it is a great place to live, work and play.  But like many of you I am concerned about rising crime in DeKalb County and I am concerned about our teenagers and young adults who are making poor decisions and losing their way.  These issues affect us not just as individuals but as neighborhoods and communities. 

I believe the DeKalb County State Court can provide opportunities to address these issues and find solutions.  Because the State Court hears misdemeanor cases, a State Court Judge can keep a small mistake from becoming a big mistake so that a minor offender does not become a major criminal.  I see this as more than just an opportunity;  I believe it is an obligation to the citizens of DeKalb County.  The State Court can do so much more than just prosecution, punishment, and probation.  We can create solutions for individuals and families so that the Court System does not become a revolving door. 

In my 14 years as a lawyer I have represented people from all walks of life, from individuals charged with crimes, to people who have been hurt in accidents, to businesses and business owners, and to children and their families in Juvenile Court.  I have sat on both sides of the courtroom as a Plaintiff's attorney and as a Defense attorney.  For 6 years I have been appointed to Judge cases for the DeKalb County Merit System, including the termination appeal hearing of the former DeKalb County Police Chief, Terrell Bolton.

I have the legal experience, the business experience, and the life experience to make sure that individuals are held accountable for their actions, to keep our communities safe, and to find opportunities for solutions.  As your next State Court Judge, I will take advantage of every opportunity to meet the needs of DeKalb County so that the State Court works for you.  After all, this is our community, this is our county, and DeKalb County State Court is our court.
